About Nicolette Callaway

I am a self-taught visual artist who grew up in Texas, and I lived and worked in New York City and Upstate NY for a number of years before relocating to Nantucket, MA, where I was inspired for about a decade. My collage paintings are made with paper cut from fashion and gossip magazines. I repurpose the images they display in an effort to call the viewer away from a superficial, consumerist culture; however, rather than reappropriating the images themselves, I use their color and texture as though it were paint. By manually transforming the magazines into pieces of original art, I enact a shift from a technologically-manipulated world back toward one which is tangible and true.

I currently show in studio and at art and artisan markets in the Boston area. My collages have been displayed in exhibitions and juried shows on Nantucket and in the New York Capital Region and surrounding areas, and some are award-winning. Reproductions of my work are available at The Rainbow Fleet on Nantucket, and on Etsy. I welcome commission work.
